Hello, I’m Emma. I am an experienced, fully qualified and BACP registered counsellor working in private practice in Aberystwyth.
I offer both short term and long term one to one support to adults (18+) for 50 minute sessions on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
If you are experiencing difficulties in your life, exploring your thoughts and feelings in an empathic, confidential and non-judgemental environment can help you gain some control, understanding and peace of mind.
I have worked with people of all ages and backgrounds on issues such as depression, anxiety, low self esteem, relationship and family problems, sexuality, bereavement, sexual abuse and much more.
Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), I am now offering telephone and online counselling sessions via Skype, Zoom and WhatsApp.

About me
I moved back to Aberystwyth in 2017 after 20 years away. During this time, I worked abroad, in a London business school and various charitable organisations as a counsellor and psychotherapist.
Professional training and experience
Originally trained in psychodynamic counselling, with an emphasis on unconscious processes and early childhood experiences, I have become more integrative over time. I use a combination of approaches, including solution focussed techniques, psychodynamic therapy, person centred counselling, coaching and CBT techniques, tailor made to what works best for you.
Working style
I am friendly and relatable, believing that the relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to healing and positive change. I work collaboratively, offering emotional support and helping you gain more control of your life. I will not judge you or tell you what to do. Instead I will listen, reflect back and ask questions, helping you to achieve greater clarity, understanding and empowering you to overcome the difficulties you are facing.
Areas of interest
Experienced in working with a wide range of emotional problems, I am particularly interested in issues surrounding family and relationships, sexuality, gender identity, negative thinking, anxiety and low self esteem. Having recently become a mother, I am also passionate about working with women and men who are struggling with problems related to parenthood, pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal depression. It can be such a wonderful yet stressful time with so many changes and pressures and I feel it is so important to have a safe space to talk and get the support you need.
Ethics
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I abide by their strict code of ethics. This ensures the highest standards of confidentiality and professional practice are in place.
Training, qualifications & experience
Certificate in CBT skills (The Grove practice, London 2016)
